"We can't sit around waiting for whatever might come next. AI is already here."
AMY WEBB, FUTURIST
Amy Webb. futurist and author of The Big Nine: How The Tech Titans And Their Thinking Machines Could Warp Humanity says that we have "a chasm in understanding in how AI is impacting daily life in the present, one growing exponentially as we move years and decides into the future."
We are exploring how AI is and will impact K12 education - how we teach AI to students, how AI will be used in learning and teaching and how AI will change how teachers, education leaders and education institutions work.
Our aim is to start to ask questions, explore ideas and start conversations that will make the real world, and near future, implications of AI in K12 education real and meaningful.
WHAT WE'RE SAYING
We write stories about things that interest us over on Medium, publish audio on Soundcloud and video on Vimeo.
THE BUZZ ABOUT BLOCKCHAIN
It seems like everyone is talking about blockchain, but what’s the use case in K-12 education? Dr Peter Thomas and Lauren Sayer writing on Medium.
WHAT WE'RE READING
Some things we're reading right now about AI and its implications for education.
AI IS INFILTRATING HIGHER EDUCATION
AI-driven tools like chatbots, plagiarism-detecting software and apps to check spelling and grammar are being joined by new, more powerful applications that answer academic questions, grade assignments, recommend classes and even teach. From The Hechinger Report.
ENVISIONING AI for K-12
Whar are the big ideas in AI that every K-12 student should know, and how we should communicate with the public about advances in AI and their future impact on society?
COURSES WE'RE MAKING
We've developed a platform of microcourses that allow students to learn about key concepts in AI.
The microcourses cover many of the important concepts in AI. They cover not just the concepts, but ask students to build AI applications using the same technologies that are used to build real-world AI.
The courses were developed by Haileybury teachers Toan Hynh, Jeff Plum and Jerry Daly working with Dr Peter Thomas.
You can access the microcourses here.
We'll also be writing about our motivations for developing these courses, how we did it, and what it might mean for teaching AI in a K12 context.
