SUSTAINABILITY

LEARN ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY WITH HAILEYBURYX and SUSTAINABLE X

In these courses, we’re going to help you learn what sustainability means.

You might have heard the word in connection with climate change, or maybe what kind of energy we use and how we use it, or waste recycling - and it does mean all of those things: working to conserve the earth resources, reducing the number and amount of materials we consume, using less electricity, buying more efficient appliances in our homes or recycling our packaging.

But it means much more than that.

Now, businesses - even ones as big as Google, IKEA or Uniliver - are starting to think about sustainability and why it’s important to consider, for example, how the companies who supply their materials and services can be more sustainable, or how they can work to encourage sustainability in their workforces or their communities.

In these courses, developed in collaboration with global sustainability company Sustainable X, we’ll look at all of these topics and more - and about how you, the school you study at, the university you may go to or the employer you will work for can be more sustainable, in addition to exploring why those who understand sustainability will be in demand in the workforce in the future.

THE UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

UN Sustainable Development goals logo

The UN's Sustainable Development Goals were created by the United Nations in 2015.

They set out a 15-year plan to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.

Before studying the HaileyburyX/Sustainable X microcourses, you should read about the 17 goals, which explain what sustainable development is and shows how by working together the world can meet needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
